Privacy Policy

Wayland is local-first. Your conversations, your files, and your agent data stay on your device. We designed Wayland to collect as little as possible, and to keep you in control of where your information goes.

What the desktop app collects

Nothing. Wayland Desktop sends us no telemetry, no analytics, no usage data and no crash reports. There is no Wayland backend for it to send them to, it needs no Wayland account, and nothing you do in it is reported to us.

You do not have to take that on trust, and you should not have to. The app is open source, and the error-reporting library it bundles only activates behind a build-time key that we have never issued. In a released build the compiler removes that branch outright, so the code that would send a report is not present in the binary you run. The one file that sounds like tracking, a random identifier the app stores locally, is read only by that removed path, so it never leaves your machine.

The app does ask GitHub whether a newer version has been published. That request tells GitHub your IP address and which version you are running, the same as downloading any file from them would. It tells us nothing.

What our websites collect

getwayland.com and docs.getwayland.com run no analytics, no tag manager and no tracking scripts of any kind. Our documentation loads Chatbase to power the "Ask Wayland" assistant, and that is the only third-party script on either site.

• Account information. You have an account with us only if you have bought something from us. Where you have, we hold the basic details needed to identify that purchase, such as your email address.

Bring your own keys

Wayland connects to model providers using your own API keys. When you run a task, your prompts and content are sent directly to the providers you choose, and that content is handled under their privacy terms, not ours. We do not receive, store, or process the content you send to those providers.

Third-party services we use

Some features rely on outside services. When you use them, your information is handled under their terms:

• Model providers. The AI providers you choose and connect with your own keys.
• Discord. Our community space, where conversations are governed by Discord.
• GitHub. Where our code, issues, and discussions live.
• Chatbase. The "Ask Wayland" assistant in our docs, which processes the questions you type into it so it can answer them.

Sync and backups

Sync and backups are optional, and they do not involve us. When you enable them, the app encrypts your settings with a passphrase only you hold and writes the result to a location you choose on your own storage. It is not uploaded to Ferrox Labs, so there is nothing for us to read, hand over or lose. If you lose the passphrase, nobody can recover it.

Cookies

We use only strictly necessary cookies, the kind required for basic functionality such as keeping you signed in where you have an account. We set no advertising cookies and no cross-site tracking cookies, and we build no advertising profiles.

Data requests and contact

You can ask us about the personal information associated with your account, request a copy, or ask us to delete it. To make a request or ask a privacy question, contact us:

Children

Wayland is not directed at children. It is not intended for anyone under 13, or under 16 in the European Union. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will remove it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Wayland evolves. When we make a material change, we will update the date at the top of this page. Please review it from time to time so you stay informed.
